WRC drivers are Down Under for Rally Australia - Coffs Coast

WORLD rally drivers contesting Rally Australia have arrived on the Coffs Coast and are set to spend the day undertaking media opportunities.

Flying into Australia at the weekend, the top contenders spent a leisurely Sunday morning taking in the tourist sights of Sydney Harbour.

Arriving into Coffs Harbour, the drivers have met up with their teams and will today and tomorrow start to assess the forested gravel road stages on the Coffs Coast.

Round 10 of the WRC should see the drivers title clinched by Volkswagen's French driver Sebastien Ogier.

Ogier has won five of the nine rounds for the new Volkswagen-Motorsport team so far this season and leads Belgian driver Thierry Neuville by 75 points in the standings.

To secure the title, he must pick up nine points more than Neuville and one more than his Finnish teammate Jari-Matti Latvala.

Should Ogier win both the rally and the closing Power Stage, Neuville would have to finish second in both competitions to prolong the outcome of the Drivers' Championship.

The WRC drivers will this afternoon meet up with Coffs Harbour high school students in a media call and an official welcome back to Coffs Harbour.

Rally Australia and the Coffs Coast last featured on the World Rally Championship calendar in 2011 with New Zealand hosting a round of the world circuit last year.

Coates Hire Rally Australia starts with a qualifying session on Thursday morning.

For fans the Rally Show and ceremonial start in the Coffs Harbour Mall at 4pm on Thursday will lead into the opening nightly super special stage at Brelsford Park from 6.30pm.

Tickets can be purchased through Rally Australia
