Woolworths driver caught drunk delivering the morning after

WHEN Adam Robert Witt got behind the wheel of a Woolworths delivery truck after a long night of drinking, police were ready and waiting.

Witt appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Thursday morning charged with drink driving and on a restricted licence.

The court heard at 7.30am on May 9, Rockhampton police intercepted Witt driving a white Woolworths delivery truck on William St after being tipped off by his employer that he may be under the influence of alcohol.

Witt had been consuming alcohol from 7.30pm to 1.30am that morning and recorded a Breath Alcohol Content of 0.090.

Witt asked Magistrate Cameron Press to consider he was employed as a courier driver covering the Rockhampton and Gladstone area and needed his licence to work.

His application for a work licence was denied as he commited the drink driving offence while working.

"At that stage I didn't think I was over the limit and though I had given my body enough time to recover," Witt said.

Magistrate Press recorded a traffic conviction, fined Witt $500 and suspended his licence for two months.
