A BUN in your oven may lead to cheese on your plate, according to a group of Gladstone mums.
One of the weird and wonderful side effects of pregnancy, strange food cravings in expectant mothers, are common and can differ wildly with each pregnancy.
Cheese rated highly among Gladstone mums as something they couldn’t get enough of when they were pregnant.
“Cheese and crackers,” Rachel Ravell said.
“I don’t know if it was because I was sick (with morning sickness) for a lot of (my pregnancy) but it was all I seemed to be able to eat. I lived off the stuff.”
Jacki Daly also rated cheese as her number-one craving.
Jenny Campbell said cheese was one of the important ingredients in her bizarre pregnancy concoction.
“I used to crave Cheeto cheeseballs, salami, Vegemite and cheese all together,” she said.
Other Gladstone mums experienced the sweeter side to expecting, finding that they were hungry for sugar and other treats.
“Ice cream and chocolate, anything sweet,” Alex Osborn said.
Amanda Shewan agreed.
“I don’t know if I had any cravings as such. Probably just junk food in general,” she said.
Other Gladstone yummy mummies found fruit was high on their list of desirable foods.
“Pineapple,” Debbie Appo said.
“I used to make my partner drive all over the place so I could get my pineapple. You could cut an entire pineapple in half and I would sit down and eat it just like that.”
Nerida Mark also got fruity when she was expecting.
“Cherries were something I definitely craved,” she said.
“Cherries and prawns. Trust me to crave the expensive stuff!”
Some mums were not so specific in what they felt like eating, although all agreed they were hungrier.
“I think I just craved food in general,” Shelley Hilton said.
“And a glass of wine, which obviously you can’t have.”
And then there were cases of the truly bizarre.
Josceline Heslin, for example, could not get enough of the white sauce used in McDonald’s chicken burgers.
“I used to buy tubs of it,” she said.
Not a McDonald’s regular, Ms Heslin was baffled by her sudden saucy desires.
“White sauce from Maccas. Who would have thought?”
