Winter Whales hand out the money
Last Sunday the Byron Bay Winter Whales handed out the proceeds from this year’s Beach Hotel Ocean Swim Classic and Westpac mini-swim to selected local charities and organisations.
In all, $62,000 was distributed by club president Peter Kendall and swim organiser Rob Elvy to representatives of Byron Bay Ambulance, Byron Bay Nippers, Byron Bay Scouts, Byron Bay Sports Fields, Byron Bay Surf Club, Camp Quality, Byron Shire Early Childhood Intervention, Marine Rescue Brunswick, Marine Rescue Cape Byron, Northern Rivers Prostrate Cancer Support Group, Rainbow Dragons Abreast, Byron Bay RSL Swimming Club, Salvation Army, St John Ambulance, Variety for 2 Bush Bash and Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
This makes a total of $365,000 donated by the Byron Bay Winter Whales since they started the big swim event in 1988.
