Danielle has been writing for some time and is a member of the Northern Rivers Writers’ Centre.
In its fifth year, the John Marsden prize offers a prize pool of $4500 across four categories and the esteemed author for whom the prize is named is also the judge.
Danielle’s winning entry is titled ‘Here Are Your Glory Days’.
“The short story is born from the end-of-year stress of finishing Year 12,” Danielle said.
“It’s about not knowing what’s going to happen and being intensely aware and intensely afraid of all the things that can go wrong, all the horror stories.
“It’s very much about my fear of the future, but also about not wanting to wait to see what it holds.”
John Marsden said that Danielle’s story was ‘sustained from start to finish without a flat note or a false one, funny, funky and stylish’.
In 2010 Danielle has set her heart on starting a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on writing or film and television studies, and her long-term vision is for a combined career in the publishing industry and as a writer.
Danielle’s story is published in last December’s edition of Voiceworks magazine and can be read on the Express Media site at www.expressmedia.org.au
