Police search for murder suspect after woman, 75, attacked

POLICE have confirmed they are searching for a murder suspect after a 75-year-old woman was brutally attacked in her Eli Waters home.

Norma Ludlam was found with a serious head injury in her home on July 4.

She died of her injuries at Hervey Bay Hospital on Monday.

Detective Inspector David Briese said the results of the post-mortem had played a part in turning the case into a homicide investigation, saying it certainly appeared Ms Ludlam's death was suspicious.

No charges have been laid in relation to her death.

Homicide detectives had been part of the investigation since Monday and the lake behind Ms Ludlam's house had been searched for anything that might be tied to the crime, Det Insp Briese said.

"Nothing of significance was found," he said.

"We will continue investigating and we will keep talking to people who knew her."

Maxine Plummer, who lived a few houses from Ms Ludlam, said it was terrible her friend had been attacked in her own home.

"I just couldn't imagine someone doing that to a 75-year-old woman who has had a stroke," Mrs Plummer said.

"It is just horrendous."

The thought of what happened to her neighbour has also impacted on Mrs Plummer's sense of safety in her own home.

"I just can't sleep.

"I go to bed and listen to every little thing. She only lived a few houses away."

It was unclear why Ms Ludlam was attacked as nothing had been stolen.
