Pervert flasher's excuse for showing his genitals to girls

A pervert who lured women and schoolgirls over to his car by asking them for directions, then exposed his genitals to them, blames the drug ice for his offensive behaviour.

Sebastian Richard McKay, 31, was sentenced to four months behind bars after he exposed his penis to five victims in July and August of this year.

However, because he has been in custody since his arrest, he is set to be released from prison this weekend.

The court has heard McKay, who appeared in court by video-link, had been beaten up at Yatala Labour Prison and moved to Mount Gambier Prison for his protection.

Delivering the sentence on Wednesday, Magistrate David McLeod said his actions had targeted innocent victims.

"It involved impressionable and vulnerable young girls, the long term consequences on whom may not be known or completely felt for many years," he said.

"Whatever gratification you obtained by your offensive conduct was craven and selfish."

The court has previously heard McKay first exposed himself to a woman from inside a car, which police have said was hired and parked at Park Holme Shopping Centre, on July 18.

Then, at 8.20am on July 31, he asked a woman for directions from his car as she was about to cross a road in the Adelaide CBD.

She noticed that his penis was hanging out of his shorts, a prosecutor told the court.

At 9am on the same day, McKay pulled over and asked two teenage girls wearing school uniforms for directions to the nearby Mitcham Shopping Centre.

While they were speaking to him, one of the girls noticed he was stroking his genitals and the pair hurried off.

Three days later, at 1.15pm, another schoolgirl in uniform was walking when McKay called out to her from his parked car.

He again asked for directions, before she saw him shuffling his hands and noticed that his pants were undone and his penis exposed.

Magistrate McLeod said McKay was fit and healthy, and had never been diagnosed with a mental health condition.

The court heard he admitted to using the drug ice and told an expert that was probably the reason why he committed the offences.

"You say you weren't thinking straight and were a bit off-track and thinking differently," Magistrate McLeod said.

"To the extent to which drugs may have played a part, the consequences were self-generated and a deliberate choice on your part."

McKay has a number of prior convictions, including for an incident that involved him stealing condoms from a service station, breaking a glass bottle against a wall and threatening the console operator before running off.

On this occasion, he pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent behaviour and one count of making off without payment.

He was handed a sentence of five months, 19 days, with four months to be served behind bars and the remainder to be suspended.
