Who's Hilton? New face for Australian cricket
AUSTRALIAN cricket selectors continue to spring surprises with uncapped all-rounder Hilton Cartwright included in Australia's one-day squad to face New Zealand next month.
With the world champions desperate to rediscover form after a 5-0 series loss to South Africa, the selectors have named a powerful 14-man squad ahead of the three-match series starting in early December.
Selectors have recalled NSW speedster Patrick Cummins and Victoria's Glenn Maxwell, while pacemen Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and James Faulkner return after not playing against South Africa.
Cartwright has also earned a call-up with the Western Australian all-rounder's inclusion indicating he may also be on the cusp of Test consideration.
Averaging 43 with the bat from 14 first-class matches, the Zimbabwean-born 24-year-old has a golden opportunity to announce himself as Australia's next all-rounder in the wake of Mitchell Marsh's Test axing.
"Hilton bowls useful aggressive medium-pace and is a very good striker of the ball,” interim selector Trevor Hohns said.
"He is an exciting young prospect for Australian cricket and we have been watching him at the pathway level for some time now.”
