Whales take Top End Shield

A Byron Bay Winter Whales team travelled to Greenmount Beach last Sunday to race against 10 other clubs for the annual Cameron Copeland Top End Shield.

The Bay boys won the event, a relay race of 10 swimmers per club, by recording a time of 30 minutes 51.74 seconds to win by some 38 seconds.

It was club captain Reg Feutrill’s first Top End as leader and his acceptance speech left no doubt as to his opinion that ‘his’ boys placed boots on rear ends.

The success in the water follows the success of this year’s Beach Hotel Ocean Swim Classic and Westpac mini-swim which raised $62,000 for distribution to selected charities, and organisations and augers well for a tilt at the Aussie titles in Sydney in September.
