SCOTLAND'S Richie Ramsay missed out on a playoff to decide a US Open spot after leaving a qualifying event early to attend a fellow golfer's wedding.
The former US amateur championship left the qualfying tournament at Walton Heath near London after rain fell for much of the day and fog delayed the playoff.
82 players were competing for spots at the second major of the year played at the Congressional Country Club in Maryland next month, with the playoff deciding the 11th and final spot at the US Open.
The playoff eventually started in darkness at 9.15pm without Ramsay who just missed the start after returning back to the course when his flight to golfer Gareth Maybin's wedding reception in Belfast was delayed.
The playoff was won by Sweden's Johan Edfors after he beat Denmark's Andreas Harto at the first extra hole.
"It's just been an horrific day - an awful, awful day," Ramsay told Sky Sports.
"As I left it was 5.30pm and guys were teeing off the first. I actually feel physically sick - I can't believe they played when it was pitch dark."
Fellow Scotsman and 2010 Ryder Cup-winning captain Colin Montgomerie also failed to qualify.
