Warwick stands tall

NETBALL: Six Warwick netball teams headed to Gatton for interdistrict action at the weekend. Here is what the coaches and captains of each team had to say.

Wck 1 Seniors - Captain Jess Carey

Two wins and two losses. Wins against Gundy and Highfields. Two losses against Warwick 2 and Laidley. All girls played well in the conditions.

Wck 2 16 Yrs - Belinda Fenton and Steph O'Brien

Thrived in the wet and slippery conditions and won their first two games against Highfields (20-6) and Warwick 1 (18-11). As the rain stopped and the weather warmed up a little, the girls may have relaxed their game a bit too much and were then defeated by Laidley 1 and then again by Downlands 1 in a very close game (18-17).

Wck 3 15 Yrs - Helena Fraser

Two wins, two losses - not an overly successful day for these young ladies. They'll be hoping to bring it home strongly for finals.

Wck 4 14 Yrs - Leah Murphy and Jess O'Brien

The 14yrs rep team is playing up in division 1 with the 15/16 yrs. The girls played very well at Gatton, winning three out of four of their games. The conditions were poor with showers and a very slippery court to play on. They look forward to playing in the finals in Toowoomba on August 4.

Wck 5 13 Yrs (1) - Shari Hirning

Three wins, one loss. The girls played well under tough conditions and with one player short. Were able to come back in most games to win after having over a five-goal deficit at half time. Excellent attitude and good sportsmanship shown from all.

Wck 6 13 Yrs (2) - Polly Hope

Three wins, one loss, wins against Toowoomba, Goondiwindi and Highfields

Wck 7 12 Yrs - Taylah Brackin

Three wins, one loss, with games against the top two teams. This division is very close, the team is tying for third place and a fifth team is just behind. A top effort from the girls. They have gelled together as a team since coming back from Challenge Carnival.

Wck 8 11 Yrs - Kerri Shooter, Abbey Harrison and Jess Somes

Four wins for the day (10-2, 9-8, 18-1, 20-6) and the girls certainly have improved. Their defence is exceptional, use of court space and timing made it easy for the ball to travel from one end of the court to the other. The girls are so willing to put what they learn at training into practice on the court.
