Walters latest to pass up Cowboys

KEVIN Walters' decision to join the Queensland Origin coaching set-up next year has effectively ruled the Storm assistant out of the vacant Cowboys head coaching position.

Newcastle assistant Rick Stone has also ruled himself out of contention for the North Queensland job by choosing to stay on as Fiji's World Cup coach, during October and November.

That means, according to reports, that Roosters under-20s coach Paul Green, or Sea Eagles assistant Brad Arthur, are the favourites to take over in Townsville.

The successor to former Cowboys coach Neil Henry is expected to be named today.
