WALLABIES coach Michael Cheika will be the guest speaker for a rugby union dinner at the Wollongbar Tavern in July.

Cheika will be joined by former Brumbies five-eighth and Fox Sports presenter Rod Kafer, who will be the MC on the night.

The night is being hosted by the Far North Coast defending premiers Wollongbar-Alstonville and is open to all clubs and supporters.

The Wallabies have home Tests against Fiji, Italy and Scotland next month, with the dinner to be held on July 13.

"It's great news for the club and a small town like Wollongbar," club president Bill Johnston said.

"He obviously has a busy schedule and you never just expect something like this to happen so we're thrilled that he's able to attend.

"It's ultimately a fund- raiser for the club but we open it up to anyone and there will be a Q and A format on the night."

Money raised will go towards the construction of a rugby facility to be built on the new Wollongbar sports fields.

The club hopes to raise $250,000 this season to go towards the facility, which will be the new home of the Pioneers and other sporting clubs on the plateau.

Johnston expects plenty of discussion and interaction with Cheika.

"I think he's pretty transparent with what he says and I'm sure he'll be open to answer questions," he said.

"He took over the Wallabies at a time when we were struggling and got us to a World Cup final.

"We're obviously struggling a bit at the moment but he was able to turn that team around in six to nine months when he had the full squad together.

"I was over there for the World Cup and to knock out the host nation and make the final was a big achievement."

All tickets must be pre-booked and can be made by email to angegrayndler@gmail.com

Tickets are $100 or $900 for a table of 10.
