A PROMINENT radio newsreader from the NSW Mid-North Coast has fronted court on child abuse charges.
Nick O'Callaghan, the Port Macquarie-based news director of Radio 2CS and Star FM in Coffs Harbour, stands accused of sexually assaulting a friend's nine-year-old daughter.
The 52-year-old appeared in the Port Macquarie Local Court this morning charged with aggravated indecent assault of a victim under authority and three counts of possessing child abuse material.
He was given bail and will be subject to an Apprehended Violence Order, which prevents him from having any contact with the alleged victim or going within 200m of her home and/or primary school.
The case will return to court in September.
An executive with the radio network confirmed Mr O'Callaghan has left his job due to "personal reasons".
