A MOTHER has shared a wedding dance with her son -- a final act of defiance as her body was succumbing to breast cancer.

Her battle against the disease would be lost just three days later.

KTVU reports 61-year-old Mary Ann Manning from Dublin, California had been grappling with the cancer for three years when she attended the wedding of her son Ryan in early September.

Daughter Kristie Manning said her mother just wanted to make it to his big day.

"She didn't care how she had to do it, whether that meant pumping more chemo in her body, whatever," she said.

Far from simply being there on the day, Mary Ann took to the floor for a moving dance with her son, swaying tenderly to "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".

"I think that everybody kind of realized what they were seeing and what they were seeing was an incredibly strong woman doing a magnificent thing. A miracle," Ryan said.

"It was incredibly emotional, especially to see her pop out of the wheelchair," said Mary Ann's daughter Karie Chamberlain.

"For the days leading up to the wedding, we were helping her do everything, even walk. To see her just jump up, it was amazing."
