Victory focus on final despite looming Liverpool match-up
MIDFIELDER Mark Milligan says the announcement Melbourne Victory will take on English giants Liverpool at the MCG on July 24 will not distract the team ahead of tonight's A-League elimination final against Perth.
Milligan said while he was thrilled the club had secured a match against one of the world's best teams, the excitement would have to take a beat seat until the Victory's finals campaign was over.
"It's a massive coup for the club to get them out - it's very exciting," he said.
"But we're just worried about this week. Hopefully the pre-season's still a couple of weeks away for us."
Milligan acknowledged the team's form in recent weeks - two wins, two draws and four losses from its past eight games - had not been great, but he said the 3-2 win against Wellington on Sunday had been timely.
"There's been a lot of interruptions for us. We've had some pretty serious injuries," he said.
"The results maybe haven't been outstanding ... but again we draw a lot of confidence out of the win on the weekend."
Perth beat the Victory 3-2 in Melbourne when the teams last met in round 26.
