WHAT'S not to love about chocolate?

American ex-pat Vicki Cameron-Smith hopes the universal appeal of the much-loved dessert will help her Sweet Billie's Cookies sell out at Woolworths stores.

The 62-year-old from the Gold Coast won tonight's episode of the reality food competition with her tried and tested "OMG" chocolate sandwich cookies.

"I'm the one who bakes everything. It's my passion, my joy," she told APN.

"I've been making cookies every weekend for as long as I can remember.

"When you think of a yummy chocolate cookie it's pretty universal."

The decadent treats, which feature chocolate pie filling sandwiched between two chocolate cookies, were a happy accident.

"One day I was making those cookies as well as a chocolate pie, and I just simply scooped the cookie into the pie mixture I was making," she said.

"I thought 'Oh my gosh wouldn't this be gorgeous'.

"For years and years I didn't really care if I used good chocolate or not. But then I discovered cocoa powder and other little things that go into making something really rich."

Each week three home cooks vie for the chance to package and market their recipe for sale in Woolworths stores.

Whichever of the winning products sells the most in its week on the shelves wins the $100,000 grand prize.

Smith believes her years of experience in the kitchen and the simplicity of her recipe were the keys to her success over Kara Jensen-MacKinnon's salted caramel sticky date pudding and Katherine Keiler's apple pie balls.

"It wasn't as daunting for me, even though I'd never coked in a professional kitchen," she said.

"As far as the prep and having everything in volumes, I went in totally prepared."

Seeing her finished product in its packaging was a special moment for Smith, who has been trying to make her cookies a viable product for years.

"You've got these aesthetically gorgeous little cookies that you've been making forever and you think 'What are they going to do to it when they commercialise it?' I just burst into tears," she said.

"They're the most gorgeous things you have ever seen. They made it so much bigger, but the integrity of the cookie and the way it looks is just brilliant."

Smith's cookies will be available at Woolworths stores and online starting tomorrow.

Recipe to Riches airs Tuesdays at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
