Versatile Citroen C4 Picasso launched at $40,990

THE Citroen C4 Picasso, a versatile, practical five-seater offering is now available in Australia and the French manufacturer is optimistic it will add at least 10% to their bottom line in this country.

Starting from $40,990, it is billed as a cross between a hatch, people mover and SUV, the Picasso is built on PSA's modular EMP2 platform which has the advantage of improved strength, weight saving measures and high-performance technologies.

The new petrol power plant comes courtesy of the Prince Engine developed in partnership with BMW and cuts CO2 emissions to as low as 130g/km and fuel consumption to 5.6 litres/100km.

The drivetrain will develop 121kW at 6000rpm and 240Nm from 1400rpm to 4000rpm offering accessible power and performance around town and on open highways.

"The C4 Picasso arrives at a time when this segment is growing, but it is a very strong proposition in terms of vehicle features, warranty, service and support," said Citroen Australia general manager, John Startari.

"We believe it will appeal to a wide variety of Australian buyers looking for a modern, flexible and innovative vehicle that is great to look at and easy to live with."

Of course the Picasso has enjoyed tremendous success around the world since it first entered the market 18 months ago but the Australian launch was delayed until it was available with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

That drivetrain paired with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine is the only variant being sold here with an impressive list of high-specced standard inclusions featuring a segment-first 360-degree bird's eye view camera, as well as a range of optional equipment.

For your $40,990 you will also get park assist, satellite navigation, 30.5cm dash mounted, high-definition, panoramic screen, 17.7cm multi-function touch screen with in-built 8GB music storage jukebox, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, panoramic 'Celio' glass roof, keyless entry and start, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, fog lamps with cornering function, 3D rear lights and a spare wheel.

The deal is sweetened further by a six-year warranty, capped-price servicing and roadside assist package.
"The C4 Picasso offers a compelling value package and we are certain it will surprise and delight customers looking for an innovative, practical and value-packed family vehicle," said Startari.

"With its standout exterior and interior design, combined with its on-board features, the C4 Picasso also proves practical doesn't have to mean boring."
