Unlikely duets will be Mullum's bread and butter

BREAD & Butter will be a new event at this year's Mullum Music Festival, where musicians from the line-up will be paired up for duets of their choosing by Mullum Festival team member Kate Atkinson.

While festival organisers are keeping mum on the couplings and songs for Bread & Butter's debut this year, Atkinson confirmed artists such as Yirrmal, William Crighton, Claire Anne Taylor, Liz Stringer, Suzannah Espie and Jo Jo Smith are among the musicians getting involved, and that there's something very special in store for the opening and closing songs.

"All the artists have great respect and admiration for each other's work but most have never had the opportunity to perform together," said curator Kate Atkinson.

"Mullum is a musician's festival, it's where many musical marriages are formed and it's a delight for the audience to witness."

The Village Vanguard is just one of the eight main festival venues throughout the town of Mullumbimby where you'll find musicians from the line-up collaborating.

  • Bread & Butter will be held at the Village Vanguard venue on Sunday, November 20, from noon. At Mullum Music festival, November 17-20. Visit mullummusicfestival.com.
