Underbelly star touts tourism
THE TWEED shire and southern Gold Coast are officially open for business with the launch of a Tourism Queensland campaign starring Underbelly celebrity Gyton Grantley in television commercials.
Mr Grantley is standing in front of picturesque Currumbin beaches designed to show what Queensland really looks like to counter the perception the state is still under water after the many natural disasters in recent months.
A spokesperson for Tourism Queensland said Currumbin was the perfect location for the commercial.
“Currumbin’s clear waters and stunning beaches are typical of the Queensland coastline and our enviable lifestyle,” the spokesperson said.
“As a Queenslander, Gyton Grantley was perfect for the role.”
The Queensland Minister for Tourism, Manufacturing and Small Business, Jan Jarratt, said the $5.5 million, three-month domestic marketing blitz was thick with the spirit of Queenslanders.
“The TV commercials will begin airing tomorrow to continue spreading the message that nothing beats Queensland’s holiday destinations,” Ms Jarratt said.
“These fresh new commercials remind us all of the laid-back humour Queenslanders are famous for and, cleverly, all filming was done over the last week to show that Queensland is shining post-floods and cyclones.
“By continuing this campaign we are working to extend on our initial success, to keep the ball rolling and to get Queensland’s tourism ind-ustry back on top.”
Ms Jarratt said the campaign was also a call to arms for Queenslanders, encouraging them to holiday at home this Easter.
