African Children's Choir to perform in Mullumbimby

AFTER sell-out concerts in Sydney, the African Children's Choir is due to perform on June 14 at the Mullumbimby High School Hall.

The Mullumbimby/Byron Bay leg of the tour is being organised by Song Dynasty Music Mullumbimby.

Director Janet Swain said the children's choir will present a public workshop before the main concert at the high school.

Ms Swain spent time in Uganda in 2013 and maintains a strong connection with the African Children's Choir.

"The African Children's Choir will be performing Ugandan drumming, dance and song," Ms Swain said.

"The purpose of the tour is to raise awareness of Africa's orphaned and destitute children and raise funds for the choir's programs.

"During its 30-year existence, the choir has provided 30,000 children with a better education, with choir members educated to university-level and often returning to the community as lawyers and doctors."

Parents at Cape Byron Rudolph Steiner School will billet the children and be their chaperones.
