Two tons for Bay
The second round of senior cricket grade games for the 2010-11 season was a mixed result.
With the first round of all teams’ games last week being washed out due to an east coast low, the Bay was hoping for a full set of club games for last weekend.
However, the firsts were unable to get on to Megan Crescent Turf at Lennox v Lennox Head for the first day of a scheduled two-day game due to weather and the fourths had to forfeit to Alstonville Gold due to lack of numbers in their one-day fixture.
This left it up to the seconds to do battle with Lennox Head at Williams Reserve, Lennox Head.
The Bay batted first and after 71.2 overs of a scheduled 75, they had amassed a healthy 7-361 total at stumps on the first day.
Matt Irwin made a cameo 100 and was run out which helped as he is unavailable next weekend due to commitments.
Darren Wright put the selectors on notice with a 102 not out (and he said it was chanceless) in his start to a fully committed season for the club.
Congratulations to both players for this unique achievement of two centuries in our ‘first’ game of the season.
The Bay can bat on until 75 overs this weekend and the bowlers are amped up to have a big total to defend.
With such a big score, the Bay has to be positive and look for an outright result, so Go the Bay.
Training is at the Rec Ground nets from 4pm on Thursdays with an extra session being available on Tuesdays for the committed.
Contacts for the club are President Greg on 0414494208; Secretary Syl on 0421155600/0414189982 and Bruce for the 4ths on 0448137690.
The club’s new website is able to be Googled on byronbaycc.nsw.cricket.com.au and we are looking for any interested players who may have arrived into the area and are looking for a run.
