Best mates identified as Chinchilla crash victims

Best mates Russell Poole (left) along with Jackson "Jacko" Sattler were killed in a crash on the Chinchilla-Tara Road near Chinchilla at the weekend.

THE two men involved in a crash which claimed their lives in the early hours of yesterday morning have been identified.

Jackson "Jacko" Sattler, 21, and Russell Poole, 21, were killed instantly after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed on a straight section of road south of Chinchilla.

Police have confirmed Mr Poole was the driver of the vehicle.

It is the second time this year the residents of the small community of Wandoan have had to deal with the death of a young person in their prime.

In January, Chris Hall, 21,  was killed in a crash south of Wandoan.

It is understood both Mr Sattler and Mr Poole were good friends with Mr Hall.

Chinchilla police officer-in-charge Sergeant Gerard Brady said today investigations as to whether speed or alcohol played a part in the crash was one line of inquiry police were looking at.

EARLIER: TWO men have been killed following a crash near Chinchilla this morning.

Both men were 21 and were from Wandoan.

Emergency services were notified of the crash on the Chinchilla-Tara Road, about three kilometres south of the town, shortly after 1.50am.

Preliminary investigations indicate the utility has left the road and crashed into a tree.

Both occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

It is the fourth death on the regions roads this week.
