Unregistered driver injures four in crash, then runs away

UPDATE 2.30pm: POLICE are searching for the driver of an unregistered car that put four people in hospital in a crash at Tabulam.

Inspector Matt Kehoe of the Richmond Local Area Command said the crash happened shortly after noon yesterday at Jubullum Street, when an unregistered maroon Nissan Maxima crashed into a blue Mazda.

The crash left all four people in the Mazda badly hurt, with the young woman who was driving the car trapped in the vehicle for about an hour before she could be freed by emergency services.

Insp Kehoe said the driver of the Maxima fled the scene on foot.

The driver and a man who had been sitting in the back seat, both aged in their 20s, were flown to Lismore Base Hospital with serious injuries and another woman, who had been sitting in the front passenger seat, was taken to Lismore Base by road ambulance.

Another man, who had been sitting in the back seat, was taken to Casino hospital where he was treated for a cut to his head.

The three people taken to Lismore Base were not believed to have suffered life threatening injuries.

Insp Kehoe said police were still looking for the driver of the maroon Nissan Maxima and appealed for anyone with information about the crash or about the location of the Maxima's driver to phone Casino police on 02 6662 0099, Tabulam police on 02 6666 1244, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
