LONDON Olympian Brendan Sexton has returned to the winner's list for the first time in 18 months, claiming victory in the British Triathlon Sprint Championship (750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run), in Liverpool.

The 27-year-old Aussie, set to compete in his first ITU World Championship Series round for the year in Hamburg this weekend, ran down countryman Aaron Royle who was making a return to racing after a bout of pneumonia just three weeks ago.

Sexton's girlfriend, Charlotte McShane, made it an Australian double by taking out the women's race.
