Trailer crash closes highway with bananas

THE Bruce Highway was closed in both directions after a semi-trailer carrying a load of bananas rolled 12 km north of Proserpine.

A Mackay police spokesman said the crash happened at about 7pm yesterday.

The spokesman said the driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to Proserpine Hospital shortly after the crash.

He said one lane of the highway was opened once police arrived on scene.

"As soon as our guys were able to get there we opened up one lane, and the highway wasn't blocked for very long."
Investigations into the crash are continuing.
