Winx has final workout ahead of Chipping Norton Stakes
TRAINER Chris Waller and jockey Hugh Bowman are convinced champion mare Winx is fit and ready to continue her long winning streak when she resumes in the Group 1 $600,000 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Winx, with Bowman in the saddle, completed her final workout at Rosehill this morning with a solid workout on the course proper as another large media contingent watched on.
Waller said Winx is forward enough in condition to run a solid 1600m first-up in the Chipping Norton Stakes.
"We have given Winx three barrier trials to have her ready for this race,'' Waller said.
"I don't think we could have done any more - the hardest part is the waiting. There is still two days to go.''
Bowman maintains Winx is more relaxed and settled going into her autumn campaign than she has been in previous preparations.
"Winx is happy in her work and her action feels great,'' Bowman said.
"It's hard to say she is going as well as ever until she is tested in a race but all the signs are good going into Saturday.''
Winx is at prohibitive odds of $1.08 with Ladbrokes to record her 23rd successive win in the Chipping Norton Stakes. She is chasing an all-time record 16th Group 1 win in the Randwick weight-for-age race.
