Top paddlers turn out for Byron event

SOME of the best paddlers in the region turned out for Sunday’s Byron Bay Ocean Paddle, but no one could match the power of Ben Allen, who took out the 12km event.
Cory Hill came second, with David Rhodes third, in the open men’s ocean ski category.
Joel McKitterick backed up his line honours win at the Coomera Cup with a win in the under 18s, and Michael Booth won the under 21s.
The over 40s and 50s were won by Danny Collins and Glen Lawrence respectively.
Bernadette Wallace won the open women’s ski category by more than three minutes, and Shona Walker took out the over 40s women’s event. More than 150 paddlers took part in the event, which attracted hundreds of spectators.
