Toddler attacked by dog

A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl underwent surgery on the weekend after being attacked by a dog.

Family of the young Urbenville girl said their two dogs were in a room fighting when the young girl entered at their Tooloom Street home. One of the dogs, a female whippet, then scratched the girl on the face, the family told police.

Richmond local area command duty officer, Inspector Bill McKenna said the victim sustained a 2-3cm laceration to her face and underwent surgery.

Details on whether the injury was caused by a dog bite or a scratch are still being investigated.

“Police were contacted by the doctor (who initially treated the victim) who said she was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for injury inflicted by a dog,” he said.

Insp McKenna said the doctor thought it was a dog bite but the family said it was a scratch.

Police and officers from the NSW Department of Community Services attended the victim’s residence on Sunday.
