Toast spring at winery’s launch of new vintage

A SPRING celebration will be held at the O'Regan Estate Winery at Craignish on September 15.

The event also will launch the winery's 2010 chambourcin wine.

The launch will include a wine-tasting, finger food, entertainment and an art exhibition by the Fraser Coast Art Group.

Winery owner Cathy Christensen plans to open the cellar to the public each month and also provide a variety of entertainment at each event.

Ms Christensen said market stalls of organic produce might even be part of the future for the winery if the events grew more popular.

The winery was purchased in 1988, but after breeding goats and cattle, it became a vineyard in 1998 and is the only commercial vineyard in Hervey Bay.

Chambourcin is a French-American hybrid grape, resistant to disease and is grown naturally at the vineyards.

It is a light red Beaujolais-style that is great for Queensland summers.

The other wine grape that Ms Christensen grows is a verdelho that has its origin in Portugal and has become Queensland's signature wine style recently.
