Tiger flight delayed for seven hours at Mackay Airport

MORE than 60 passengers were held up for more than seven hours at Mackay Airport yesterday after a Tiger Airways flight was grounded due to technical problems.

A spokesperson for Tiger confirmed the A320 Airbus, scheduled to depart at 10.20am, had required an engineer's assessment and was due to leave at 6pm.

The spokesperson said many of the 148 passengers were able to be re-routed on flights with other carriers but 67 were still left waiting for last night's delayed departure.

One of the passengers stranded was 13-year-old go-kart driver Declan Fraser who was on his way to the Junior Top Guns races at Oakleigh in Victoria.

His father Justin said the weekend would be "blown" if Declan couldn't make it to Melbourne last night and that it wasn't the first time they had been delayed on Tiger flights by "technical issues".
