Quarantine for cattle properties

SEVEN North Coast properties were quarantined yesterday following the detection of cattle ticks on stock at the Casino meatworks last week.

Though the cattle originated from Macksville, Industry and Investment NSW (formerly NSW DPI) has advised stockowners throughout the northern region to be vigilant.

“Normally we don't get infestations that far south,” the department's regional veterinarian Paul Freeman said.

“Cattle ticks were found at Bellingen in 1991 and 2007, and Rollands Plains in 2007, and in each case they were fully eradicated.

“Cattle should be examined when they are yarded and any unusual ticks reported.”
