NETBALL: The star-studded Magpies have finally shown what everyone expected of them in a 64-45 victory over the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

A side featuring the likes of Ash Brazill, Sharnie Layton and Caitlin Thwaites was expected to dominate the new Super Netball competition but two defeats and a win from the first three rounds left the Magpies off the pace until yesterday.

Diamonds goal shooter Thwaites led the way, sinking 46 of 47 attempts.

Wing defence Brazill also impressed with four intercepts and three deflections in a dynamic exhibition.

For Adelaide, there was just one positive, the confident shooting of rookie Sasha Glasgow who landed 19 goals from three quarters.

The Giants remain atop the points ladder after edging out fellow newcomers Lightning in a thriller.
