MONDAY - 11.30AM: THREE teenage girls were sexually assaulted by a number of men in Woolgoolga on Thursday night after a meeting was arranged on social media.

Detectives say the victims, two girls aged 16 and one aged 15, met up with the men on a local property and were supplied with alcohol.

Two of the male suspects, aged in their 20s, are believed to be students or tourists to the area of Indian appearance.

Police say they are aware of the identities of the men, who are suspected to have been involved, and there are concerns they may have since travelled to Queensland.

Coffs Clarence Crime Manager Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said the assaults were violent in nature.

A crime scene was established at the local property where the group met up and a further crime scene was established in sand dunes on Woolgoolga Beach.

Police confirmed a vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.

"At this stage our inquiries are following some leads into contact being made with the girls via Facebook and we do believe there was some alcohol involved prior to the committing of these offences," Inspt. Jameson said.

"The allegations are quite concerning for us not only due to the violent nature of the assaults, but the fact that alcohol was involved and the tender age of these kids.

Detectives made the case public today after pursuing a number of leads at the weekend.

"The sexual assault of these girls is concerning in particular the allegation that one of the girls was held down while she was assaulted," Inspt. Jameson said.

"Our inquiries are still ongoing into the identity of two suspects in that matter, who we believe are tourists or students of Indian appearance.

"We believe that they have left the area and gone to Queensland."

Anonymous leads can be given to Coffs Harbour detectives via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
