Fishing smorgasbord

The Northern Star

KEEN anglers are heading to their favourite fishing spots this week, as ideal conditions bring a 'smorgasbord' of fish to North Coast beaches and rivers.

ECOfishers CEO, Ken Thurlow, said the fishing was normally good at this time of year.

“It's even better with all the silver pilchards and frogmouth pilchards that we've got around,” he said.

“We're also seeing a smorgasbord of tropical fish in our waters.”

Ballina Bait and Tackle's Gary 'Squidgie' Palmer said the fishing was 'brilliant'.

“There's mackerel up to 10kg, as well as dolphin fish and snapper. The bait fish are coming into the river as well, so that's good,” he said.
