Bluesfest busking competition starts with groms on Saturday
THE heats for the Bluesfest Busking Comp are starting with the Grommet event this weekend at the Byron YAC beginning each day at 11am.
This is followed by the open event, which is held at the Beach Hotel on Byron Monday, April 14 and Tuesday, April 15 from 3pm.
This competition is constantly growing and evolving, providing opportunities for unsigned artists to gather expansive reach as they embark on their musical career.
The opportunity to perform at the 25th anniversary of Bluesfest along with a recording package with Studio 301 in Byron Bay are up for grabs as the artists grace the stages of the YAC and the Beach Hotel.
As these musicians provide amazing entertainment within Byron in the lead up to Bluesfest, this is the perfect opportunity to head along and support the musicians at the beginning of their careers.
The finals will be held at the Beach Hotel on Good Friday and makes for a day of musical revelation with the finalists performing to a packed Beach Hotel providing for an entertaining way to start the Bluesfest experience.
The winners of the 2013 competitions were Claire Anne Taylor in the Open category and Nick and Sam in the Grommit section.
Due to the large number of applications in recent years, the open competition has broken capacity and an increasing amount of applications have received knock backs in previous years.
In light of this, a decision was made to expand the competition to a wider audience and allow for additional applications in 2014.
Earlier this year there was a preliminary application process where applicants were required to supply a YouTube recording of a performance.
These performances were then reviewed in the preliminary process, and semi-finalists were chosen. The next step is the semi-finals, which will be conducted next Monday and Tuesday.
This will also make things a bit easier for those travelling distances.
