The different sides of Lior's new music project

LIOR is currently halfway through recording his fifth studio album, an unnamed project set to be released in 2017, but some of those new songs will be part of his shows at Mullum Music Festival later this month.

Born in Israel, Lior moved to Australia aged 10, and in 2005 earned ARIA nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist, Best Male Artist, and Best Independent Release for his sophomore album Autumn Flow.

He has released another three albums: Corner of an Endless Road (2008), Tumbling into the Dawn (2010)and Scattered Reflections (2014).

His fifth release will be a different one to previous projects.

"This album has two faces, half of it I am doing in Melbourne, and half of it in New York, with two different producers," he said.

"Usually the albums I put out already waver between singer songwriter and band sounds, but this time I wanted to really draw the line and work on the band stuff in a different environment and with a different producer."

"If I was doing this in the late 1960s this will literally be Side A and Side B of the same record."

A third of the upcoming album is already written and recording has begun.

One of those side projects that keep Lior quite busy is the Hush project.

Lior joined forces with Australian a cappella vocal ensemble The Idea of North and other artists to produce a charity album for the Hush foundation.

"One of those big side projects is a charity album for Hush, an organisation that creates music for kids cancer wards, with the dual purpose of creating music to be played at the wards but also for all the proceeds from the album to go to the wards."

The album is called A Piece of Quiet and is available from hush.org.au.
