The cowgirl and the showgirl coming to Writers' Fest
THE Cowgirl and the Showgirl is a new show by Country singer Beccy Cole and Cabaret diva Libby O'Donovan coming to the Byron Bay's Writers Festival.
The show offers a creative look into Cabaret and Country, and how both genres can coexist with creative arrangements and a bit of humour.
Beccy Cole said Libby O'Donovan produced some particularly creative arrangements to blend cabaret and country music into one successful show.
Both singers wrote the show together and they seem to have struck gold with their collaboration.
"It is very fast-moving, very funny but it's got its poignant moments as well."
"It debuted at the Adelaide Cabaret festival this year, and we had so much fun doing it that we are taking it on tour this August and September.
"Just after we released the dates of this tour the show was nominated for a Helpmann Award as Best Cabaret Performer.
"We are very thrilled," she said.
Beccy Cole said writing a show was an interesting experience, different to writing songs or a book.
"It was a definite first for me," she said.
"I've just finished writing a book, which is the reason why I am at the festival in the first place".
The book is called Poster Girl, a memoir by Cole of her experience as a Country singer.
"Originally I said no, who would ever want to read that, but now I am really proud of it," she said.
Beccy Cole released a new album last April, Sweet Rebecca, via ABC Music/Universal.
As soon as Cole and O'Donovan finish touring The Cowgirl and the Showgirl in September, Cole will go back to touring Sweet Rebecca around the country for the next nine months.
At the Byron Theatre, 69 Jonson Street, Byron Bay, this Friday, August 7, from 7.30pm. $45.
