Challenge ahead for Australia to win Hopman Cup
TENNIS: Australia has a mountain to climb if it is to win a first Hopman Cup in 26 years after losing its fisrt round-robin tie to Canada in Perth.
The pairing of Bernard Tomic and Samantha Stosur must now beat Italy, which also lost to Poland on the opening day of the competition, to stand any chance of progressing in the tournament.
Tomic was expected to beat Milos Raonic but went down in straight sets, 7-6 6-1, while Stosur lost in three sets to rising star Eugenie Bouchard, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The Aussies did win the doubles 6-2, 6-4 but it was too little too late.
