Teen attacked bouncer after spiked drink dispute

A TEENAGE woman who repeatedly punched a Toowoomba nightclub bouncer in the face has been handed a sizeable fine.

Sjiyan Deearna Rosalind McAvan had been out on the night of April 6 with a friend who became ill, police prosecutor Julia Wheaton told Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Believing her friend had fallen victim to a spiked drink, the 19-year-old approached the security provider at the Agenda Nightclub about 3am, but she was concerned he wasn't taking her seriously.

As ambulance officers treated her friend, McAvan was asked a number of times to step away to give the paramedics some space, Senior Constable Wheaton said.

When she didn't move away, the security provider had picked her up to take her to the exit.

The teenager had become upset with the bouncer and punched him "approximately six times" in the nose and face, leaving him with some blood coming from a scratch, Snr Const. Wheaton said.

A week later McAvan was shown CCTV footage of the incident at the police station where she was given a notice to provide identifying particulars within seven days but she had failed to meet that deadline.

She pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm, contravening a police direction and removal of a person from a licenced premises.

Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck told the teenager security providers were there to do a job, not to be punched.

He fined her $1200 but ordered the convictions not be recorded.
