Target finds bugs in Christmas confectionery

TARGET has been forced to recall one of its Christmas confectionery products after discovering it was contaminated with red flour beetles.

Flour beetles are well known for attacking cereals such as pasta, biscuits and beans and obviously flour.

But while eating them may cause an allergic reaction - in rare cases - the bugs are not poisonous.

The product in question, cookie mix in a jar, was sold in Target stores nationally between August 30 and December 20, 2016.

In issuing a product recall the ACCC said eating the cookie mix could lead to: "discomfort caused by the ingestion of insect contamination."

Target's ayered Baking Mason Jars have been recalled after the retailer found bugs in some of the jars.

"Consumers should not use or eat the product and should return it to the place of purchase, or any Target store, for a full refund."

The whole thing could be a little more awkward if you've given the cookie mix as a gift.

Anyone who has bought the product should phone Target on 1300 753 567.

Target has been contacted for comment.
