Supercar format set for change


V8 Supercars has announced several ground-breaking changes for 2014, including simplifying the formats and introducing twilight races.

A minimum of five Saturday twilight races are possible next year, with dates, times and venues to be announced in the New Year.

As a precursor, the first 250km race at the Sydney 500 this December will run from 5.10pm to 7.30pm. The Top Ten Shootout at next month's Bathurst 1000 will also be staged later on Saturday afternoon.

Organisers have also announced a move to three categories of events - SuperSprint, SuperStreet and Enduro.

As a result, the Townsville 400 and ITM 400 Auckland become 500km events. The SuperSprint events will see two 100km races held on Saturdays with a 200km feature on the Sunday.

After a debut race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas this year, no race will be held at the venue next year because of a clash of events. But V8 officials have confirmed the series will return to Austin in 2015, with the possibility a second event could be held in the week before or after.
