Summertime is still festival time

AVID festival-goers travelled interstate in droves this year to see their favourite acts during Australia's summer music festival season.

Despite the bitter reality of the global financial crisis, ticket sales to music festivals around Australia have boomed over summer with tens of thousands packing up and rocking out.

Jetstar's David Koczkar said Australians were travelling this year despite the economic slowdown.

He said that even during the economic crises the company was witnessing strong demand across the leisure market.

Research conducted by Street Press Australia throughout January discovered nearly 40,000 people had travelled interstate and internationally for music festivals.

A factor which may be helping this movement is the falling price of airfares and the growing competition between budget carriers.

More than 170 festivals were happening throughout Australia.
