Street evacuated after 'explosive device' found

A SPRAY of bullets and the discovery of a home-made bomb forced the evacuation of a quite suburban street on the NSW Central Coast on Monday.

Police were responding to a drive-by shooting at home in Ettalong Beach, near Gosford, when they found an "improvised explosive device" planted next to a car.

A mother and her son were home at the time but were uninjured.

The street was cleared as officers from the Bomb Squad were sent in from Newcastle.

The site was declared safe about 7am.

A motive had not been established on Monday night but police did not believe the attack had links to an ongoing feud between bikie gangs in Sydney.
