Spotlight on the ‘Dames’ at cancer fundraiser

With the red carpet rolled out, the spotlights on and the paparazzi at the ready, Byron Bay’s celebrity set turned out in force for their annual girls night out last week.

With not one, but a kaleidoscope of ‘Dame Ednas’ on parade, the annual Cancer Council dinner at the Byron Bay Golf Club went off with a flurry of pastel frocks and fox-skin stoles. After the ‘Dame’s’ arrival, the big names just kept rolling in.

There was ‘Cleopatra’ arm-in-arm with that trashy ‘Paris’ and that darn dog. ‘Agnetha’ and ‘Frida’ in outfits any Abba fan would die for; followed by ‘Charlie Chaplin’ and ‘Audrey Hepburn’.

More than 100 guests dined, wined and were entertained.

‘Mary Poppins’ and the ‘Von Trapp’ family tried their best to preserve the dignity of the night, with ‘Mary’ overheard several times saying ‘Now girls, put your fingers in your ears please’.

The ever-cool ‘Blues Brothers’ never took their sunglasses off, and not to be outdone, ‘Sandy’ and ‘Danny’ led the Byron Bay Pink Ladies in some fancy footwork. But it was those ‘Ednas’ who were the triumphant team for 2009. Nearly $2000 was raised.
