Sport the winner in shire

SPORT has been the real winner in the Byron Shire this month.

Two weeks ago, the Federal Government coughed up $8 million for new sports fields at Byron Bay and, last Saturday, Bangalow’s new $600,000 sportsfields were officially opened.

Getting the two new Bangalow playing fields completed has involved a massive community effort with local groups contributing $147,000 worth of labour and materials.

The project was funded from Byron Council’s Section 94 (developer) contributions and a $200,000 State Government grant.
