OPINION: Splendour’s style is very groovy

THE Northern Rivers does festivals better than any other area I know.

It's just great at putting on big events.

Splendour in the Grass is a stand out success in that department.

And it is such a cool thing to have fantastic line-up of international and national artists come to our little neck of the woods to perform.

The weather is rather lousy, but the music is going to be hot, and I like all the little sub genres that are operating within Splendour this year.

MORE ON SPLENDOUR

There's the usual art installations and I am sure there will be cool bars and places to hang out.

Splendour's style is very eclectic and it is the best dressed festival going around.

Aside from the music, I am really looking forward to seeing a few of the comedy acts and having a good belly laugh.

But the big one for me will be Tony Jones bringing his Q&A format to a youth festival.

It's shame that it is not actually going to be filmed and aired as a program because I think it would be really good to hear from the current generation what they think about the issues of the day.

Are tax reform, politicians and their trave lentitlements and Bronny's 'Choppergate' really what occupies the collective minds of the youth of today?

Splendour marks a turning point in the year and from here on until the end of the year it really is festival season.

Pretty soon we'll be talking up the line-up coming to the Writers Festival and the gastronomic delights of the Sample Food Festival.
