SPLENDOUR in the Grass fans are fuming after the website for ticket vendor Moshtix went into meltdown on Thursday morning, preventing many from buying tickets.

Thousands of fans flocked to the Moshtix site at 9am in the hope of securing tickets to the massive 3-day music festival.

The huge influx of traffic seemed too much for the online ticketing system, crashing the site's servers and denying many the chance to finalise their booking.

Angry fans vented their frustration online, with an 'Official "I Hate Moshtix"' thread starting up on music news site Faster Louder.

"Can someone please start a smear campaign for moshtix," wrote one user on the forum.

"Well done moshtix on providing the worst ever ticket purchasing experience," wrote another.

Earlier in the morning, a fake Twitter account was set-up claiming the event was already completely sold out.

"Tickets are selling fast ... despite false claims on some Twitter sites," an event spokesperson said.

The massive music event is being held in Woodford, south of the Sunshine Coast, for the first time this year but enthusiasm clearly hadn't waned with queues of up to 20,000 logging into the official website for tickets.

‘We are overwhelmed by the demand for Splendour tickets ... we'd like to thank everyone for the continued support and for embracing the exciting changes taking place for our 10th birthday, it's going to be one super fun weekend," event producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco said.

The concert will this year be headlined by The Strokes, Ben Harper and the Relentless7, Empire of the Sun, Triple J hottest-100 winners Mumford & Sons and flamboyant pop act Scissor Sisters.

It will run from Friday July 30 until Sunday August 1.
