Spider scares driver enough to send car into lake

A WAYWARD spider who surprised a New South Wales driver, is copping the blame for a four-wheel-drive going into a lake.

The driver was taking a load of rubbish to the dump when he noticed a hunstman had stowed away for the ride.

Panicking, he pressed the accelerator pedal when he wanted to press the brake.

As he sped towards the approaching turn, he instead went over the bank and into the drink.

"I meant to hit the brake but instead I accidentally hit the accelerator," he told Port Macquarie News.

As the four-wheel-drive sank into the water, the driver realised he could not open the vehicle's locked doors.

He made a lucky escape through a window that was already mostly open.

There is no word yet on whether the huntsman survived the splash, or whether it is plotting to attack another unsuspecting driver.
