Speed limits reduced

Speed limits along Left Bank and Tyagarah Roads have dropped to 80 kph.

The existing speed limit of 100kph along Left Bank Road has been cut to 80kph for 4.4km from about 70 metres west of Melaleuca Drive, Mullumbimby to Frasers Road, Mullumbimby Creek.

The existing speed limit of 100kph on Tyagarah Road has been cut to 80kph for 4.4km and operate between Myocum Road, Myocum and the Pacific Highway, Tyagarah.

Byron Council’s executive manager of community infrastructure, Phil Holloway said the council welcomed the decision by the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA).

“Left Bank Road is a heavily used school route and the new 80kph limit is better suited to the road conditions and the road users such as parents, students and school buses,” he said.

He said there had been strong community support for improved road safety with council undertaking a road safety review in 2009.
